Breakfast at hotel

0800 hrs.: Our first stop is a visit to the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, the largest mosque in Oman, and one of the most popular places to visit in Muscat. Accommodating up to a stupendous 20,000 worshippers at a time, the structure features a blend of various architectural styles, which is highlighted by its beautiful décor and the spectacular crystal chandeliers and handmade Persian rugs here, which are some of the largest in the world.

Notes: Grand Mosque is open from Saturday to Thursday from 0800 – 1100 hrs only (last entry at 10:30 hrs). Ladies visiting the mosque are required to cover their head with a scarf and do not wear shorts, beachwear, or sleeveless outfits as they are to be fully covered. Also, need to be covered from head to toe. Men are also to be fully covered, though short sleeve shirts are allowed for men. Slip-on shoes are recommended as one has to remove them to enter the mosque.

We further proceed to Muttrah Souq. Mutrah Souq is one of the oldest markets in Oman, dating back about two hundred years. Its antiquity has perhaps increased the extent of its beauty, magic, and allure. The market starts at a gate facing the Sea of Oman and Mutrah Corniche and ends with another gate in the city’s old quarters that usually receive visitors coming from other Omani towns and villages.

We proceed for a photo stop to the magnificent Al Alam Palace, official palace of His Majesty, the Sultan flanked by the 16th century Portuguese forts Mirani & Jalali.

The National Museum which is not only the largest museum in the Sultanate; it also houses tens of thousands of artefacts in its collection that comprehensively tell the nation’s story. It is this comprehensive, all-inclusive approach that makes it a true bearer of the term ‘national’, with its many rare and stunning pieces showcasing Oman’s pre-Modern Islamic architecture and culture, its role as a major player in the region and East Africa during the colonial era and its modernday economic resurgence since 1970.

Lunch at local restaurant and return to hotel.

TWILIGHT DHOW CRUISE:
Transfer to the Marina to embark on a relaxed dhow (fishermen’s boat) cruise. See Muscat coast through the eyes of ancient seafarers who plied this route for centuries.
